Job Description

The University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center (UM Capital) is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our dedicated, multidisciplinary team in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

UM Capital serves as a key regional referral center, delivering high-quality, family-centered care to newborns requiring intensive support. Our NICU provides advanced neonatal services in a modern facility designed to meet the complex needs of our community's most vulnerable patients. As part of the University of Maryland Medical System, UM Capital benefits from close collaboration with academic and specialty care resources, ensuring our patients receive comprehensive and evidence-based care.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team committed to clinical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement in neonatal care.

The Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers comprehensive 24/7 clinical care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Working in close collaboration with attending neonatologists, the APP contributes to medical decision-making using evidence-based practices and current standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily clinical management and coordination of care for NICU patients.
  • Collaborate with attending physicians to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Serve as a clinical and educational resource for nursing staff, residents, fellows, and patient families.
  • Participate in and contribute to daily multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Attend high-risk deliveries and respond to neonatal emergencies.
  • Conduct prenatal consultations with expectant families as needed.
  • Engage in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, teamwork, and ongoing learning within the NICU team.

Minimum Qualifications:

For Nurse Practitioners:

  • Completion of an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) program and current Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification.
  • NationalCertification Corporation (NCC) certification is required.
  • Maryland licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of neonatal nursing or clinical experience in a NICU setting is strongly preferred.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider status is required; opportunity to become an NRP instructor if not already certified.
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

For Physician Assistants:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Prior neonatal experience or successful completion of a neonatal-focused residency or fellowship program.
  • Maryland licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant.

Compensation: $112,000–$149,760 annually (based on years of experience)
