Under the general direction of the Office Chief of Strategic Safety and Implementation, a Supervising Transportation Engineer (Manager), the incumbent, a Senior Transportation Planner (Specialist), serves as the Road Safety Infrastructure Plan (RSIP) Coordinator.
The incumbent is responsible for initiating, developing, and implementing Caltrans’ Road Safety Infrastructure Plan (RSIPs). The position also serves as Safety Programs' single focal point for RSIPs. The RSIPs are a critical component of the Department’s safety mission, the California Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP), and the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Implementation Plan.
The incumbent has primary responsibility for ensuring district traffic safety planning efforts reflect current federal and state goals, policies, and regulations and that the RSIP internal and external stakeholder interactions are coordinated effectively. The incumbent coordinates and guides division staff and subject matter experts on matters of systemic safety planning. The incumbent also works with other Caltrans divisions to support initiatives such as safety corridors, quick build guidance, safe system approach integration into transportation planning processes, and developing safety corridor study methodologies.
The incumbent supports the division and districts in implementing a Safe System approach on the State Highway System as well as provide uniform standards for regional partners and local roads.

Position located at 1120 N Street, Sacramento, Sacramento County.
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s current telework policy. While Caltrans supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquartered location. Business travel reimbursements considers an employee’s designated Headquarters Location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions.
