General Purpose

Provides technical leadership on the most complex and business critical transmission engineering projects. Facilitates internal training for transmission line design engineers and technicians. Develops presentations for senior management and recommends and implements process improvements to benefit the company. Develops engineering plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Company’s transmission, distribution, telecommunication facilities/systems.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct highly complex engineering research studies and technical analyses in areas of transmission line design not commonly available or obtainable in the competitive engineering market.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to all engineering staff.
  • Lead project teams in the development of critical engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise for critical plant and/or facility components.
  • Serve as the Company expert in transmission line design and provide authoritative consultation and recommendations to senior management.
  • Develop detailed transmission line design specifications and prepare bid packages for construction.
  • Perform quality control reviews on all internally and externally designed projects.
  • Develop transmission design scopes and project plans
  • Review, investigate and evaluate system and equipment performance, tests and analyses performed by senior Engineering staff.
  • Participate in government, industry, collegiate and other applicable associations or work groups which have the ability to influence or set policy impacting the future of our utility.
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial or energy engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of 10 years industry experience as a practicing transmission line design engineer, including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
  • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
  • Highest level of communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
  • Highly proficient use of PLSCADD, LPile, and MFAD software.
  • Expert knowledge and application of principles in area of transmission design engineeringfor voltages 230kV and above. .
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws regulations and electrical codes, including the National Electric Safety Code and GO-95 (California).

Preferences

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of the Company’s business and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
