Job Description

A mission-driven non-profit organization is seeking a dedicated Staff Attorney to join its legal team and take the lead on small claims matters . This role is ideal for an attorney passionate about community advocacy, access to justice, and direct client impact. The position is onsite and offers meaningful litigation experience in a supportive, purpose-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

• Represent clients in small claims court proceedings , including preparation, negotiation, and trial
• Evaluate case merit, conduct legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements
• Work closely with program staff and community outreach teams to identify legal issues affecting underserved populations
• Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable laws
• Participate in legal clinics, community workshops, and education initiatives as needed

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in FL
• 1-3 years of litigation experience preferred, particularly in small claims or general civil matters
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
• Commitment to public interest work and serving low-income or marginalized communities
