Job Description

The Purchasing/Parts Manager must have the ability to build, develop, and implement policies and procedures to drive the parts department. Parts Manager will aid the efficiency and productivity of service and repair operations by maintaining the right mix and level of inventory.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee the operations and daily activities of the Parts Department
  • Maintain employee performance and work quality through training, counseling, planning, monitoring, and appraising employees
  • Coach department associates with any performance problems
  • Responsible recruiting and hiring Parts Associates
  • Develop a plan to orientate new associates into the Parts Department
  • Plan and implement the overall supply chain strategy
  • Identify process bottleneck and implement solutions in a timely manner
  • Direct continuous improvement of purchasing processes in line with changing organizational needs and market conditions
  • Collaborate with Production staff and other relevant departments to manage inventory requirements
  • Manage and maintain inventory system
  • Direct and coordinate physical inventory.
  • Conducts frequent and regular Cycle counts of physical inventory
  • Annual physical inventory audits
  • Provide inventory reports to management
  • Continually meet expectations through teamwork, respect, and willingness to help and support others.
  • Work with finance, sales, and manufacturing team to determine best vendors and distributors
  • Build and maintain good relationships with all vendors
  • Negotiating terms and prices with suppliers and freight companies, monitoring, and assessing their performance and maintaining cost-effective practices
  • Follow and enforce all company policies and procedures
  • Resolve any issues with attendance and/or conflict that may arise
  • Help revise, update, or create procedures, policies, processes, and structure
  • Notify the Plant Manager of any issues that they or any of the associates in the Parts Department may encounter that prevent them from fulfilling their assigned duties
  • The Parts Manager may be assigned other duties or projects not solely related to the Parts Department
  • Daily use of advanced PC and business computer applications, telephone conferencing and e-mail.

Required Education, Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma required/Associate's degree preferred
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Diesel/Semi Tractor or Heavy Equipment Mechanics
  • Integrity, sense of responsibility, sense of urgency, independent judgement
  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with functional departments, supervisors, and suppliers
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Physical demands include:
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50+ pounds
  • Constant hand, fingers, and arm use
  • Must be able to climb up and down a ladder
  • Ability to continuously stand or walk
  • Ability to manipulate small hand tools
  • Ability to bend, squat, and lift frequently
  • Pushing and pulling objects weighing 50+ pounds
