Job Description:

As a Framing and Art Restoration Specialist at Prism Specialties of Colorado, you will play a critical role in preserving and enhancing a wide range of artworks for our diverse clientele. You will leverage your expertise in custom framing and art conservation to deliver exceptional, high-quality results. This role requires hands-on craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a deep respect for the integrity of the artwork.

Key Responsibilities:

· Custom Framing:

o Design and craft custom frames tailored to the specific dimensions and needs of each artwork, using a variety of materials, such as wood, metal, and specialty finishes.

o Expertly mat and mount artwork using archival-grade, acid-free materials to ensure longevity and protection.

o Operate a range of framing equipment, including mat cutters, joiners, and mounting presses, with proficiency and safety.

o Work closely with clients to understand their vision for the artwork and provide expert advice on frame styles, colors, and materials that will enhance the piece while ensuring it meets archival standards.

o Repair and restore damaged or antique frames to preserve their historical integrity and aesthetic value.

· Art Restoration:

o Clean and repair artworks, including paintings, prints, drawings, and other works on paper, ensuring that each piece is handled with the utmost care and expertise.

o Transport, protect, and carefully remove artworks from client homes or businesses, ensuring proper insurance and safety protocols are followed.

o Assess the condition of each artwork, identifying specific issues such as tears, discoloration, flaking paint, and water damage, and create customized treatment plans for each restoration project.

o Apply specialized restoration techniques, including cleaning, surface repair, re-lining, and re-varnishing, using appropriate tools and materials to ensure the artwork’s integrity is restored.

o Maintain thorough and accurate records of restoration processes, client interactions, and project timelines to ensure clear communication and documentation throughout the restoration journey.

o Package completed artworks carefully and securely for safe storage or transport back to the client.

Requirements:

· Proven experience in custom framing and/or art restoration, with a strong portfolio of previous work.

· Demonstrated manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to produce precise, high-quality work.

· Knowledge of the tools, machinery, and techniques used in both framing and art restoration.

· Ability to lift, carry, and handle large or heavy artworks (up to 50 pounds) safely, ensuring proper lifting techniques and protective measures.

· Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality.

Preferred Skills:

· In-depth knowledge of art history, materials science, and conservation principles, with a strong understanding of the various types of artworks and their specific preservation needs.

· Experience working with museums, galleries, private collectors, or other high-value art institutions.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide thoughtful, informed advice to clients and effectively manage client relationships.

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, ensuring each project is completed on time and to the highest standards.
