Job Description

We are working with a non-profit that supports unhoused and at-risk families and individuals as they navigate housing in NYC.

The team is seeking an Employee Relations Specialist to support their HR team. The ideal candidate will have experience working in shelters or a similar environment, and handling full scope employee concerns.

Ideally, they would like a bilingual English/Spanish candidate with 1-3 years experience in a non-profit environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with investigations and interviews with employees concerning employment issues/complaints.
  • Participate in investigations and respond to complaints of alleged harassment, discrimination and Title VII, ADA, ADEA or Equal Pay Act complaints filed with various state and federal agencies as necessary.
  • Prepare investigative documentation, including interview notes and summary of findings.
  • Utilize Employee Relations Case Management System to manage cases from intake to resolutions.
  • Review and respond to performance management and corrective action documents.
  • Educate management on Employee Relation processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to the strategy development for Employee Relations and EEO issues/concern.
  • Provide solutions and advise on employee relations strategies and risks including, but not limited to employee terminations, adverse impact, severance & outplacement services, employee engagement, conflict resolution, and investigatory techniques.
  • Conduct training on ER related topics (professional conduct, handling performance issues, EEO highlights, policies and pitfalls, etc.)

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field, required.
  • One to three (1-3) years experience in a Human Resources position, employee relations experience preferred.
  • Bi-lingual, English / Spanish preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; HRIS experience in Dayforce preferred, but not required.
  • A hands-on team player with superior interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to forge effective working relationships with individuals at all levels throughout the Company.
  • A proactive professional with strong consultative skills and the ability to demonstrate flexibility, creativity, conceptual ability and judgment.
