About the position

This is a locally engaged staff position at an overseas Australian Diplomatic Mission.

The Health and Education Officer is a key member of the Family Support Team, responsible for administering Conditions of Service (CoS) applications related to health and education benefits for Australian Defence Staff (ADS) and their recognised dependants during long-term postings to the United States.

This role involves providing advice, processing applications, and responding to enquiries about health and education-related benefits. This is one of two positions, with each position leading on either Health or Education support. Both positions will support and assist across general health or education administration as required. A core component of the role is providing accurate, timely and high-quality knowledge of Defence entitlements, particularly those outlined in the Pay and Conditions Manual (PACMAN), with a focus on health and education assistance. 

Remuneration package

Salary

USD $77,820 - $91,032. Please note – new starters commence at base of salary range.

Performance Management

Locally engaged staff engaged in an ongoing or fixed term capacity are eligible to participate in the performance management system. Staff who are employed on 31 March, are preforming at the required levels, and have worked in the role for at least 100 working days are eligible to receive a salary advancement of one increment OR a bonus of two percent if at the top of their level.

Work Authorisation Requirements

Applicants for this position may be eligible to apply for an A-2 visa on the basis of an offer of employment if they do not already fall into one of the employment eligibility categories listed:

· United States citizen

· A United States lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder)

· Valid US employment authorization

· Please note that A2 visas are valid for a period of 5 years and are non-renewable. Also, accompanying dependants of LES A2 visa cannot request work authorisation in the United States.

  Additional Information

This position is a designated security assessed position. Applicants must be an Australian citizen to be eligible for engagement. Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the employee having or acquiring a valid DFAT recognised security clearance. Security clearances can take several months to process, and employment cannot be commenced until an appropriate clearance is confirmed. There is no guarantee that the successful candidate for the position will be successful in obtaining a clearance. The inability to obtain a clearance prevents that applicant from being employed and loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.
