Job Description

Chief Pilot

Reports to: Director of Operations

FAA Equivalent Title: Chief Pilot

Qualifications Required:

  • Must possess a Commercial Pilot Certificate (SEL)
  • Must possess an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate (MEL and Instrument Airplane)
  • Minimum 1,500 hours as PIC in an airplane
  • Minimum 600 hours as PIC in a turbine-powered airplane
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a FAR 135 PIC
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience

Basic Function:

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of company aircraft, compliance with company policies, FAA regulations, and operational oversight of all flight crews.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct all training activities of flight crew members per the training manual
  • Schedule crews for all flight operations
  • Ensure compliance with all time and duty requirements
  • Coordinate operations policies and training matters with relevant departments
  • Maintain and oversee flight crew standardization
  • Prepare and maintain proficiency records, flight schedules, duty reports, and operations correspondence
  • Provide and maintain current flight kits and approved aircraft checklists
  • Disseminate information related to routes, airports, NOTAMs, navaids, and company policies
  • Maintain and provide current copies of the AIM, FAR Part 91, and FAR Part 135
  • Submit required flight crew reports to the FAA
  • Designate and manage check airmen to ensure compliance with FAA and company standards
  • Ensure pilots maintain current route qualifications and complete required proficiency checks
  • Maintain subscription and compliance with aircraft/rotorcraft flight manual revision services
  • Notify the Principal Operations Inspector of new AFM/RFM revisions within 15 days
  • Evaluate, disseminate, and incorporate AFM/RFM updates into training programs and operations

Expanded Responsibilities:

  • Lead Pilot Hiring Committee and participate in interviews of all pilot candidates as needed
  • Maintain an up-to-date pilot roster for the entire company fleet
  • Hold and lead monthly pilot meetings to ensure communication and compliance
  • Act as Company Check Airman for at least one type of aircraft, including full types (293, 297, 299)
  • Act as Company Check Airman for oral examinations
  • Serve as Company Instructor for initial and recurrent pilot training
  • Monitor release of all company flights for operational oversight and compliance

Additional Requirement:

All Director-level roles, including the Chief Pilot, are required to provide a minimum of 30 days' written notice prior to resignation.

Other duties as assigned by the President or Director of Operations.
